What syncs

BambooHR is the source of truth for people. On each sync ClockLap reads:

  • Employees: name, email, employee number, department, location, manager, hourly pay rate, hire date, status
  • Time off types (hours or days) and balances as of today
Time off. Approved ClockLap time off is recorded in BambooHR as an approved request, when you turn it on.

How it works

  1. Create an API keyIn BambooHR: your photo (top right) → API keys → Add new key. Use an admin account so everyone is visible.
  2. Enter your subdomainThe part before .bamboohr.com.
  3. Map sites and teamsBambooHR locations (or departments) to ClockLap sites.
  4. Choose who winsField by field; the HR system wins by default.
  5. Review the dry runSee every add, update and suggested deactivation before anything changes.

Matching people

Matched by earlier links, then email, employee number and BambooHR employee ID.

  • Who wins, per field. The HR system by default: ClockLap is updated to match. Set any field to “ClockLap” and it’s only filled in when the person is added.
  • New people. Added automatically, without an invite unless you turn invites on. You choose the role they get.
  • People who leave. Suggested for turning off (default), or turned off automatically. Their history stays.
  • Sites and teams. Map the HR system’s locations or departments to ClockLap sites once; moves follow on every sync.
  • Single sign-on users. People your identity provider manages through SCIM keep what SCIM writes; the sync skips those fields and says so.
  • Schedule. Hourly, daily (default) or manual. A scheduled sync can apply itself or only prepare a preview for an admin.
A dry run first. The first sync is always a dry run: a list of the people who would be added, updated or suggested for turning off, field by field. Nothing changes until an admin applies it, and scheduled syncs wait for that first approval.

What you need

  • BambooHR with an admin account
  • An API key created by that admin
  • Your company subdomain

Every run keeps a history: who and what was sent, per-line results, plain-language errors with a fix, and a redacted request log for admins. Webhooks fire on people_sync.completed.

Questions

Are salaried pay rates brought in?

Only hourly rates become a ClockLap pay rate; other pay types are left alone.

Balances in days or hours?

Both work. Day-based balances are converted with the hours-per-day you set.

Is people sync included in the price?

Yes. HR connections are part of every ClockLap plan, with no add-ons.

Is ClockLap affiliated with BambooHR?

No. ClockLap connects to BambooHR using its published API; it isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by BambooHR. The connection is in beta while we verify it with live accounts.
